There is a reason why the labels of any sun cream product will tell you to apply the substance generously, because you want to make sure that every area of exposed skin is heavily coated to protect your skin from burning. Even if you using tanning lotion only this will at least prevent burns and help you get an even tan although sun screen is recommended over tanning lotion every time for the added SPF.
You also need to bear in mind that not all sprays or liquids are waterproof, so it is important to read the label of your product before getting wet to make sure that you will be protected the entire time that you are outdoors. Also, keep in mind that sun screen is not likely to protect you all day, therefore it is recommended that you reapply the lotion every four hours or every two hours if you are extremely active while outdoors.
